Artist Bio
Frederick De Bourg Richards: Frederick De Bourg Richards was born in Delaware in 1822. Nothing is known about his early art training, but he was a photographer and a landscape painter. He traveled extensively through Europe, he painted the Swiss Alps and the European countryside. He photographed President-elect Abraham Lincoln in 1861, which was on the cover of Harper Weekly.
Richards lost his interest in photography and turned to painting the Jersey shore and Pennsylvania. Richards exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the National Academy of Design, Brooklyn Art Association and American Art Union in New York. He died in 1903.
